Hi. I'm new to postgresql in general, and have been tasked with coming up with a replication solution for our postgresql based application. Assuming we don't bite off trying to roll our own solution, it looks like the options for replication are: 1) contrib/rserv 2) ERServer 3) slony 4) Mammoth Replicator (commercial) We have a requirement to be able to replicate to multiple slaves, so that seems to remove rserv from the list (at least as far as I can tell from its README). The Command Prompt product Mammoth looks pretty good, but we prefer to investigate open-source solutions first. That seems to leave ERServer and slony. I had just started working on getting erserver built and configured when I found out about slony, which I just downloaded. I've read the concept paper for slony, and I like the fact that sequences can be replicated, and the "replication chains" that can be defined. I don't have a clear picture yet, though, of what the differentiators are between erserver and slony. I would be interested and grateful to hear opinions about the relative strengths of erserver and slony from anybody who has experience with them or works on their development. Thanks! - DAP ====================================================== David Parker Tazz Networks (401) 709-5130
