Slony works by placing triggers on the non-slony tables. Triggers on the slony table would not acheive anything. So you broke it by disabling triggers on the non-slony tables. By an large I don't bother replicating while restoring data. I drop the subscription, load the data, add the subscription and then all the data is copied in bulk.
