Second, there is no limitation on the number of databases your master hosts. Personally, I work with slony1_ctl (http://slony1-ctl.projects.postgresql.org/) to deal with my replications. So I'm afraid I can't help choosing between perl or slonik scripts. If ever you want to give slony1-ctl a try, don't hesitate to ask for help.
