Current PostgreSQL and Slony-I can support 10 slaves. I don't know
about 8.1 and 1.1.5.

You should consider upgrading - the performance boost you will get
upgrading to PostgreSQL 8.3 might make the extra slaves unnecessary. I
would feel very nervous of my data running PostgreSQL 8.1 and Slony-I
1.1.5.
