I have alarms go off via nagios when our replication falls behind by more than 180 seconds (because our customers start to notice). Our normal lag is not more than 5 seconds or so, but occasionally we get up to 10+ minutes when doing maintenance cleanup jobs. I don't have evidence of ever losing any data.
