I think the stable tarball needs something that's been added in the CVS stable tree in order to work properly with 8.3. The RELEASE file in CVS says this: RELEASE 1.2.13 - Fixed problem with compatibility with PostgreSQL 8.3; function typenameTypeId() has 3 arguments as of 8.3. But since I don't see .13 available tarballed up on the site, I'm assuming you're getting .12. I presume we'll need a release of Slony for 8.3 compatibility shortly after 8.3 is released (or just before); but since it's in beta, we're relying on people getting the code from CVS. The following should work: CVSROOT=":pserver:anonymous at main.slony.info:/slony1" cvs login CVSROOT=":pserver:anonymous at main.slony.info:/slony1" cvs co -r REL_1_2_STABLE slony1-engine Whether this will solve your problem, I don't know, but AFAIK you won't be able to get the .12 version to work with 8.3 betas.
