as a safety precaution, I stop as many services contacting the DB as  
I can when I upgrade slony.  minimizes breakage.  usually I do it  
during a scheduled downtime, which lasts usually no more than 1 or 2  
minutes during the stop/install/upgradescript/start sequence.
