It is very, very dangerous coding practice ever to do either SELECT * or INSERT-blindly. A SELECT * has no way of predicting how things will come back to it, or whether what it thinks it is going to get is what it will in fact get. Similarly, blind INSERT is a good way to mess up your database by putting things in the wrong columns. You should fix such applications irrespective of whether you're going to use Slony.
