With due respect, I think it ought to be called the "too little
communication" or perhaps even the "brown paper bag"
<http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node=brown-paper-bag%20bug>
release.

Devrim, who should have put a stamp on this release by getting the
(S)RPMs prepped in advance, expressed understandable astonishment at
not having been told about it, let alone given time to do that
preparation and test the builds. There is at least one show-stopper
of an outstanding bug: the A->B->C one, as reported independently by
Darcy, Elein and Rob
<http://gborg.postgresql.org/project/slony1/bugs/bugupdate.php?1429>.

It may actually more than one bug. We don't know, and we should not
have released anything until we at least knew something for sure and
could document it.

I am not sure what happened here, and I'm not sure that finding out
how this happened will help much, but I do know that we need a better
release process going forward.

A few questions:

1. Is the Afilias QA team on this list? If not, which lists are they
on? We all need to get in better touch here.

2. What exactly is the release process, and where is a broad, obvious
place to post it?

3. What regression tests are running, and how do we know they've
passed on all platforms? I know this is a tough thing even just in a
combinatorial sense, but it's one we have to do.

4. The subject of a "build farm" has come up several times in
different venues. Can we get this thing spec'ed and put together in
time for 1.2? What design pieces are still missing?

Well, that's my (probably inflated) $0.02.

What do you all think is our next good move?

Cheers,
D
