That is one of the expressly intended "use cases" for Slony-I...

You should *certainly* be able to do this.  After the transition, were
you to run into problems, Slony-I can even offer the ability to fall
back to 7.4.6.  That's something that will look really great for
"mitigating risk" for the business folk...
