I had thought it was something to do with a mismatch of threaded vs. non-threaded (ie, slony is built with threads and Pg was not, but even after rebuilding Pg with threading, it didn't fix it up... But perhaps it had to do with how the port on freebsd rebuilds Pg itself... It is hanging in some deep internal pthread poll() routine.
