We presumed a postgres installation, perl 5, and "everyday" shell tools and that was it. Some have pondered adding more features, such as DBI. Some have even suggesting making it Perl-Gtk. Perhaps the best solution would be to have multiple tools, each suited for the number of perl modules/availability of X windowing system the user installing slony has. For now, I believe slony_setup.pl should remain the "lowest common denominator" setup facility for slony. Anything else should be separate. BTW, slony_setup was a originally shell script. :) Daniel >- DAP > >-----Original Message----- >From: slony1-general-bounces at gborg.postgresql.org >[mailto:slony1-general-bounces at gborg.postgresql.org] On Behalf Of Andrew >Sullivan >Sent: Wednesday, July 21, 2004 3:55 PM >To: Slony List >Subject: Re: [Slony1-general] Requirements > >On Wed, Jul 21, 2004 at 12:47:02PM -0700, David Fetter wrote: > > >>We already require a fairly modern version of PostgreSQL, and >>requiring (say) Perl 5.6 or better is really not onerous. >> >>What say ye? >> >> > >I say that Solaris 8 and AIX 5.1 do not have such a Perl.
